Projeect 3: Narrative Short Film

Team Members: Clyde, Emma, Linh, Ritika, Tristan

Project Description

For this project, as a team, we are creating a short video that tells a compelling story using either a 3-act or 5-act narrative structure. The main focus is on storytelling, character development, and narrative flow. We will begin with a shared planning document in Figma that includes a story ideas, a summary of the chosen act structure, team members roles and a detailed storyboard to guide production. The video itself will incorporate multiple camera angles, layered audio from multiple microphones, and an original sound design to enhance the emotional impact. We’ll also create a custom After Effects title sequence and end credits to give the video a polished look.

Challenge

One challenge I faced during this project is the acting part. The role I played in this project is not usually in my confort zone. To act and be filmed for dozens of people to watch is scary but it is "fear" I needed to overcome. Be confident

Solution

I could, based on what my team needed and wanted. Whenever I wasn’t happy with a shot, I asked to redo it because I knew I could do better. It reallys help because knowing I gave it my best made it easier to deal with the stress of being on camera. In the end, I’m proud of the work we created together, and I feel more confident about being in front of the camera for future projects.

Capyskill

For my capyskills, I chose in NGE.3 Collaborate Effectively, 3.4 Reflect on our product and process. I am a level 10 because I can discuss and reflect on our strenghs and our oppurtinities for growth in both our project and our process of working together. In this project, I worked with 3 classmates that I haven't collab with. By discussing our strengths, it was easier to seperate the roles. This helped us connect and learn more about each other’s skills and knowledge. It also gives us an advantage for future projects because we’ve already built a foundation of teamwork. Now, I feel comfortable asking them for help or collaborating again, since we’ve established trust and frendship.

In addition, I can reflect on my personal strengths and oppurtinities for growth. I can always find what I can improve and how to improve it. I can also set goals and I always wanted to succeded in them.

What I need to work on to upgrade to level 12 is simply asking a mentor for support. I don’t have a problem asking for help, but sometimes I tend to try and do everything on my own. While being independent isn’t a bad thing, I’ve realized that sometimes it’s more efficient and effective to reach out for support when needed. Learning to balance independence with collaboration will help me grow even more. View the figma link for more information about my capyskill.

Project 2: Interview

This project is to plan, shoot, edit and publish an interview with someone I think is interesting. I chose my high school coach, FACE Guardian and Joy, friend who I've known for over 5 years. He is one of the nicest man at FACE. He cares about the students, the teachers and the staff. For these reasons, I've decided to interview him about his life at FACE, his favorite moments and the future of FACE.

Project 1: Event

For the first project, I have decide to film how a saturday evening shift would look like at my job as a waiter. The restaurent is called MonamiAmiBBQ at Jeant Talon. I for sure could've done a better job if I could sraight with a camera attached to my chest but I was to shy to film my clients. I did ask for some permissions in the video but I didn"t want to ask everyone. I did miss some elements i usually do, but on the filming day, it was really busy, so I had to focus more on the job.

Figma Plan

In conclusion, based on feedback from peers, I should aim for more consistent text formatting (same spacing) and stick with one panning style. To make it more professional, here are a few personal remarks: improve the camera and lighting quality, adjust camera angles for better shots, use a chest-mounted camera for enhanced audience interaction and stability, slow down the tempo of shots, and include more content with my colleagues.

Apart from these potential improvements, there were some "in the moment" restrictions, such as not filming customers which lead to not great custumers reaction shots, poor lighting conditions, and it being a particularly busy day at work. I would be interested in doing more daily vlogs, and, of course, I would only improve with more practice.
